“I have been crucified with Christ; IT IS NO LONGER I WHO LIVE, BUT CHRIST LIVES IN ME; and the life which I now live in the flesh I LIVE BY FAITH in the Son of God, who loved me and GAVE HIMSELF for me.” (Gal. 2:20) The people of Galatia were “deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel” “I marvel that you are TURNING AWAY so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a DIFFERENT GOSPEL…” (Gal. 1:6)
Ultimately AIDAN, this “different gospel” taught that, while Christ may have declared the Christian to be righteous when they received Christ in their lives, they were still required to live a life under the burden of the MOSAIC LAW. The people of Galatia were living according to the works of the law, NOT BY FAITH, and Paul lets them know that we cannot change God’s word, “For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but IT CAME THROUGH THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST.” (Gal. 1:12)
Now Paul get’s real serious and tells them, “O foolish Galatians! WHO HAS BEWITCHED YOU that you should NOT OBEY THE TRUTH, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by THE HEARING OF FAITH?— Are you so foolish? Having begun IN THE SPIRIT, are you now being made perfect BY THE FLESH…Clearly NO ONE WHO RELIES ON THE LAW is justified before God, because “THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH…in Christ Jesus you are all children of God THROUGH FAITH, If you BELONG TO CHRIST, THEN YOU ARE ABRAHAM’S SEED (“…those who have the FAITH of Abraham” (Rom 4:16)), and heirs according to the promise.” (Gal. 3:1-3, 11, 26, 29)
