“…the Philistines gathered together and came and encamped at Shunem. So, Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encamped at Gilboa. When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was AFRAID, and his heart TREMBLED GREATLY. And when SAUL INQUIRED OF THE LORD, THE LORD DID NOT ANSWER HIM” (1 Samuel 28:4-6) Why did the Lord not answer Saul? Saul was COMMANDED to go to Amalek (an evil people) and destroy all and BRING NOTHING BACK. What did Saul do? “Saul and the people spared AGAG (the evil king of these evil people) and the best of the SHEEP, OXEN, FATLINGS, LAMBS, and ALL THAT WAS GOOD, and were UNWILLING TO UTTERLY DESTROY THEM (as God commanded).” (1 Samuel 15:9)
God said to Samuel, “I GREATLY REGRET that I have set up Saul as king, for he has TURNED BACK from following Me, and has NOT PERFORMED MY COMMANDMENTS.” And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the LORD all night.” (1 Samuel 15:11) So the Samuel told Saul, “Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you swoop down on the spoil and DO EVIL in the sight of the LORD …Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD …rebellion is as the SIN OF WITCHCRAFT, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, HE ALSO HAS REJECTED YOU FROM BEING KING.” (1 Samuel 15:19-23) Samuel went out and anointed David as king at this time.
Since God did not answer Saul, “Then Saul said to his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “In fact, there is a woman who is a MEDIUM (a woman with a “familiar spirit” a demon that serves the medium) at En Dor.” (1 Samuel 28:4-7)
“…the most important thing about a servant is that he always does JUST WHAT THE FATHER TELLS HIM TO DO.” (1 Corinthians 4:2)
