“MAKE YOUR WORD SURE (qûm: empowering or strengthening) to Your servant, who is devoted to Your fear. REMEMBER THE WORD TO YOUR SERVANT…This is MY COMFORT in my affliction, FOR YOUR WORD HAS GIVEN ME LIFE (châyâh: be rejuvenated, be restored).” (Psalms 119:38, 49-50)
“How can a YOUNG PERSON STAY ON THE PATH of PURITY? BY LIVING (shâmar: to keep guard, keep watch) ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD. I SEEK YOU with all my heart; do not let me STRAY from your commands. I have HIDDEN YOUR WORD IN MY HEART that I might not sin against you.” (Psalms 119:9-11)
Why do we feel this way toward God’s Word? “For the WORD OF GOD is LIVING (zaō: experiencing God’s gift of life) and POWERFUL (energēs: confined to superhuman activity), and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) Just how POWERFUL IS GOD’S WORD? When God said, “LET THERE BE LIGHTS in the firmament of the heavens TO DIVIDE THE DAY FROM THE NIGHT…Then God made TWO GREAT LIGHTS: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made THE STARS ALSO.” (Genesis 1:14-16) The instant that Word went out, the SUN, the MOON and BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF STARS were in their place! Just consider the sun for a moment to illustrate the POWER in God’s Word. The sun is 93 million miles away, the Sun is around 27 million °F at its core and 9932°F on its surface. The sun’s outer atmosphere, called the corona, can reach temperatures of millions of degrees, with some areas as hot as 36 million °F. The Sun is the largest object in our solar system. Its diameter is about 865,000 miles, this is about 109 times the diameter of Earth. That all happened when God said, “LET THERE BE LIGHTS…”
Remember when Satan tempted Jesus, Jesus defeated the devil with “THE WORD OF GOD!” (Matthew 4:4-10)
THIS ILLUSTRATES JUST HOW POWERFUL THE WORD OF GOD IS, WHEN WE SPEAK GOD’S WORD IT, “…SETS ON FIRE THE COURSE OF NATURE…” (James 3:6)
