David took some cheese and bread to his brothers who were a part of Saul’s army, when Goliath, the 9’6” giant came out challenging Israel’s army. David asked, “…who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God” (I Sam.13:26)
“David’s oldest brother Eliab heard when he spoke to the men…Eliab’s anger was kindled against David…he said, Why have you come down? I know your pride…For you have come down to see the battle.” David asked, “NOW WHAT HAVE I DONE? IS THERE NOT A CAUSE?” (1 Sam. 17:29) “David said to King Saul, Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine. Saul said, You are not able to go against this Philistine…YOU ARE A YOUTH…David said, Your servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a LION and a BEAR, and took a lamb out of the flock. I went out after it and STRUCK IT, and delivered the lamb out of its mouth…it rose against me, I caught it by the beard, and STRUCK IT AND KILLED IT. YOUR SERVANT KILLED BOTH THE LION AND THE BEAR. And this uncircumcised Philistine SHALL BE LIKE ONE OF THEM, SINCE HE HAS DEFIED THE ARMIES OF THE LIVING GOD.” (1 Sam. 17:32-36)
“Then David took his staff and chose five smooth stones and put them in a shepherd’s bag and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine. So the Philistine came, And when he looked and saw David, he look down on him; So the Philistine said, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” the Philistine cursed David and said, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds and the beasts!” Then David said, “You come to me with a sword, spear, and javelin. But I come to you IN THE NAME OF THE LORD OF HOSTS, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:40-45)
You know the rest of the story, David ran toward Goliath, put a rock in his sling and planted it, between Goliath’s eyes! David ran and took Goliath’s sword and cut off his head and Israel’s army pursued the Philistines and defeated their armies. Remember what Jesus taught us, “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me WILL DO the SAME WORKS I have done, and EVEN GREATER WORKS, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask FOR ANYTHING in my name, and I WILL DO IT, so that the SON can bring glory to the FATHER. (He is going to repeat this promise again so we’ll get it) Yes, ASK ME FOR ANYTHING IN MY NAME, AND I WILL DO IT!” (John 14:12-14)
