King David committed sin by having a sexual relationship (adultery) with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite and then he had her husband Uriah killed in battle so he could take her as his wife. This was one of many prayers he prayed, “Rescue me from MY REBELLION. Do not let fools mock me. I am silent before you; I won’t say a word, for MY PUNISHMENT IS FROM YOU (God is a Holy God, therefore there are consequences for our sins). But please stop striking me! I am exhausted by the blows from your hand. When you discipline us for our sins (David was a king, trusted by God, expected to carry out that responsibility righteously, so he had a PRICE TO PAY for his sin), you consume like a moth what is precious to us. Each of us is but a breath. Selah. Hear my prayer, O LORD! Listen to my CRIES FOR HELP! Don’t ignore MY TEARS…” (Psalms 39:8-13)
“Have mercy on me, O God, because of YOUR UNFAILING LOVE. Because of your great compassion, BLOT OUT THE STAIN OF MY SINS. WASH ME clean from my guilt. PURIFY ME from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and YOUR JUDGMENT AGAINST ME IS JUST. For I was born a sinner—yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there. Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. OH, GIVE ME BACK MY JOY AGAIN; you have BROKEN ME—now LET ME REJOICE.” (Psalms 51:1-8)
So, how did God feel about David after his sin, God, “…raised up David to be king; to whom He also witnessed and said, “I have found David the son of Jesse TO BE A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART, who shall FULFILL ALL MY WILL.” (Acts 13:22) If you have sinned, ask God to forgive you and restore you so YOU CAN BE a person AFTER HIS OWN HEART.
