“Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was TRANSFIGURED (metamorphoō: to be divinely changed into another form) before them. His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.” (Mark 9:3) The three men with Jesus saw Moses and Elijah (representing the Law and the Prophets) appear and talked with Jesus. “…as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them that they should TELL NO ONE the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.” (Mark 9:9) Peter, James, and John were being shown that all things in the Law and Prophets WERE FULFILLED IN JESUS CHRIST!
“And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them. And Jesus asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?” (Mark 9:14-16) Jesus could tell there was something going on so, He wanted to get to the bottom of this problem. “Then one of the crowd said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So, I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but THEY COULD NOT.” He answered him and said, “O FAITHLESS GENERATION, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I BEAR (anechomai: to endure) with you? BRING HIM TO ME.” (Mark 9:17-19)
In the previous chapter Jesus said to them, “When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.” “Also, when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?” And they said, “Seven.” So He said to them, “HOW IS IT YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND?” (Mark 8:19-21)
Jesus wants us TO UNDERSTAND HIS PROMISE TO US, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do HE WILL DO ALSO; and GREATER WORKS than these HE WILL DO, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, THAT I WILL DO, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I WILL DO IT.” (John 14:12-14)
“Then they brought the man’s son to Jesus. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE TO HIM WHO BELIEVES.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “LORD, I BELIEVE; HELP MY UNBELIEF!” (Mark 9:20-24) Then Jesus cast out this devil and the child was completely healed. “And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” So He said to them, “THIS KIND CAN COME OUT BY NOTHING BUT PRAYER AND FASTING.” (Mark 9:28-29)
