Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities, and this is what He said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST. Take MY YOKE upon you and LEARN from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is EASY and My burden is LIGHT.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
What does He mean when He says, “I will give you REST?“ Rest, (anapauo: give an intermission from labor) You see we cannot work spiritual things until Jesus comes into our lives and gives us rest from our doing it without Him. It must be possible for us to take Christ’s yoke upon us and do our work in a manner THAT GLORIFIES GOD; We are often one person AT WORK, another AT CHURCH, and IN OUR FAMILY STILL ANOTHER. We should strive to make our work the way of DEMONSTRATING GOD’S GOODNESS to those around us.
Being “gentle and lowly in heart.” Gentil is, praos: the necessary balance of exercising power and avoiding harshness. Lowly is, tapeinos: being God-reliant rather than self-reliant. As the wise Solomon said, “Trust in the LORD with ALL YOUR HEART (because He is the Lord God Almighty we can trust Him with everything that is in us) and LEAN NOT (we cannot depend on own our ability to figure things out) on your own understanding; in ALL YOUR WAYS (not just once in a while but in all decisions) submit to Him, and He will MAKE YOUR PATHS STRAIGHT.“ (Proverbs 3:5-6)
