This portion of scripture is called David’s Song of Deliverance, “The LORD thundered from heaven. The voice of the Most High God was heard. The bottom of the sea could be seen. The foundations of the earth were uncovered. It happened when the LORD‘s anger blazed out. It came like a BLAST OF BREATH from his nose. “He reached down from heaven. He TOOK HOLD OF ME. He LIFTED ME OUT of deep waters. He SAVED ME from my powerful enemies. He SET ME FREE from those who were too strong for me. They stood up to me when I was in trouble. But the LORD HELPED ME. He brought me out into a wide and safe place.” (2 Samuel 22:14-21)
Why was God so Good to David? David committed adultery with Bathsheba the wife of Uriah and then had Uriah KILLED in battle so he could take Bathsheba for his wife. David prayed this prayer after doing this, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” (Psalms 51:1-2) Well God said, “I do not look at the things people look at. Man looks at how someone appears on the outside. But I look at WHAT IS IN THE HEART.” (1 Samuel 16:7) “After removing Saul, God made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART; He will do everything I want him to do.’” (Acts 13:22)
David went on praying, “God saved me because He was pleased with me. “The LORD has been good to me because I DO WHAT IS RIGHT. He has rewarded me because I LEAD A PURE LIFE.” (2 Samuel 22:14-21) “God, create a PURE HEART in me. Give me a new spirit that is FAITHFUL TO YOU. Don’t send me away from you. Don’t take your Holy Spirit away from me. GIVE ME BACK THE JOY that comes from being saved by you. Give me a spirit that obeys you. That will keep me going. Then I will teach your ways to those who commit lawless acts. And sinners will turn back to you.” (Psalms 51:10-13)
