After David killed Goliath, “The women sang, “Saul has slain thousands, And David TEN THOUSANDS.” Then Saul became very angry, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?” Saul looked at David with suspicion…Now on the next day an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house, while David was playing the harp, a spear was in Saul’s hand. Saul hurled the spear for he thought, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David escaped from his presence twice.” (1 Samuel 18:7-11)
The bible says, “You are jealous…Doesn’t that prove you are CONTROLLED BY YOUR SINFUL NATURE? Aren’t you living like people of the world?” (1 Corin. 3:3) “Saul sent David away and appointed him commander over 1,000 men, and David FAITHFULLY LED HIS TROOPS INTO BATTLE. David continued to SUCCEED IN EVERYTHING HE DID, for THE LORD WAS WITH HIM.” (1 Sam. 18:13-14) Now Saul became fearful of David, “Saul realized that the LORD WAS WITH DAVID and Saul became even more afraid of him, and HE REMAINED DAVID’S ENEMY for the rest of his life.” (1 Sam. 18:28-29)
Listen to what God says about David, “LORD, you laugh at my enemies. You scoff at all the hostile nations. You are my strength; I wait for you to rescue me, for you, O God, ARE MY FORTRESS. In his unfailing love, MY GOD WILL STAND WITH ME. He will let me LOOK DOWN IN TRIUMPH on all my enemies.” (Psa. 59:8-10) This is a prayer we can all pray with David, “…though I WALK THROUGH (I am not staying there) the valley of the shadow of death, I will FEAR NO EVIL; For YOU ARE WITH ME; Your rod and Your staff, THEY COMFORT ME.” (Psa. 23:4)
