On the Road to Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, two men were walking, “So it was, while they conversed, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.” (Luke 24:15-16) They discussed how they thought this was the Messiah and WERE HOPING that it was He who was going to redeem Israel.
“…beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, Jesus expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” (Luke 24:27) “Then their eyes were opened and they KNEW (epiginōskō: epí: gnósis: implies an intimacy, a more personal relationship than gnósis. When we really see who Jesus is, we fall in love with Him) Him; and He vanished from their sight. And they said to one another, “Did not our heart BURN (this is Spiritual illumination, the word comes alive because it is living and powerful) within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:31-32)
There are more than 300 old testament scriptures that talk about Jesus. But this is what is really fascinating about this, The person who was the WORD OF GOD was revealing the written WORD OF GOD! “In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD WAS GOD…And the WORD BECAME FLESH and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1, 14) This wonderful prophecy of our value to God, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be HOLY AND WITHOUT BLAME before Him in love…He is so rich in kindness and grace that He PURCHASED OUR FREEDOM WITH THE BLOOD OF HIS SON and forgave our sins. He has showered His kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. God has now revealed to us His mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill His own good plan. And this is the plan: At the right time He will bring EVERYTHING TOGETHER under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth.” (Eph. 1:3-4, 7-10)
