This is when Moses first encountered the Lord, “So the LORD said to Moses, “What is that in your hand?” (Exodus 4:2)
We’ll study this more in a while, but I want us to understand that, “God has not given us a SPIRIT of FEAR, but of POWER and of LOVE and of a SOUND MIND.” (2 Timothy 1:7) Notice that fear is a SPIRIT not an emotion, we are taught to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom HE MAY DEVOUR (katapinō: to overwhelm, consume).” (1 Peter 5:8) What is it about us the devil wants to consume? Jesus said, “Behold, I give you the AUTHORITY to trample on serpents and scorpions (all the kingdom of darkness beings), and over ALL THE POWER of the enemy (Satan), and NOTHING shall by any means HURT YOU.” (Luke 10:19)
Jesus has given to everyone of us, who have given our lives to Him, POWER over ALL of Satan’s power. So, if we are being attacked by the devil and we cry out to the Lord to help us He may just say I HAVE ALREADY GIVEN YOU all you need to overcome the devil so, “STAND FIRM AGAINST HIM, and BE STRONG (because you have been given power over ALL his power) in your faith.” (1 Peter 5:9)
Now to get back to Moses, The LORD asked him about the rod, “He said, “Cast it on the ground.” So Moses cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand), “that THEY MAY BELIEVE that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you…And you shall TAKE THIS ROD in your hand, with which you shall DO THE (miraculous) SIGNS.” (Exodus 4:3-5, 17)
When they finally left Egypt and were on the shore of the Red Sea and the Egyptians came in force, “Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Standstill, and see the SALVATION OF THE LORD, The LORD will fight for you…(as Moses was saying this the Lord interrupted him) THE LORD SAID TO MOSES, “WHY DO YOU CRY TO ME? (I have given you all you need to overcome the enemy) Tell the children of Israel to go forward. LIFT UP YOUR ROD, and STRETCH OUT YOUR HAND over the sea and DIVIDE IT. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.” (Exodus 14:13-16)
Moses, (like us), was given power over ALL the power of the enemy he just had to (like us) use it.
