There was a woman in the synagogue who had, a “SPIRIT OF INFIRMITY and was bent double for eighteen years and was unable to stand up straight.” (Luke 13:11) When Jesus saw this woman, “…He called Her over and said, “Dear woman, you are healed of your sickness…He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.” (Luke 13:12-13)
She was PRAISING GOD because for the first time in 18 years she could stand up straight!!! “The ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation (aganakteō: very much displeasure), said to the congregation, “Six days have been defined as work days. Come on one of the six if you want to be healed, but not on the seventh, the Sabbath.” (Luke 13:14) Feeding and taking care of animals on Sabbath is permitted. In fact Jews were required by the Torah to feed dependent animals every day before they eat their selves. This is derived from the verse (Deut. 11:15) When a parent has a terminal, incurable disease, soothing care is appropriate and sufficient to satisfy the dictates of Jewish law on the Sabbath. So, when Jesus healed this SPIRIT BOUND WOMAN on the sabbath He was not in the wrong.
“Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom SATAN HAS KEPT BOUND for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?” When He said this, all His opponents were humiliated, but THE PEOPLE WERE DELIGHTED (chairō: to rejoice exceedingly) with all the WONDERFUL THINGS He was doing.” (Luke 13:16-17)
JESUS ALWAYS DOES EXACTLY WHAT IS NEEDED…
