“In their hearts humans PLAN THEIR COURSE, but THE LORD ESTABLISHES (kûn: arranges) THEIR STEPS.” (Pro. 16:9) He explains it like this to Jeremiah, “For I know the plans I HAVE FOR YOU,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a FUTURE AND A HOPE.” (Jer. 29:11)
Just when does the Lord arrange our steps? The Lord revealed this to David, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Your workmanship is marvelous. You watched me as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE WAS RECORDED IN YOUR BOOK. EVERY MOMENT WAS LAID OUT before a single day had passed.” (Psa. 139:13-16)
I think when we talk to our children (or to ourselves) about their (our) future, we should encourage them to “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding (why? Because every day of our life is recorded in His book). Seek His will in all you do, and He will SHOW YOU which path to take.” (Pro. 3:5-6) “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God PREPARED BEFOREHAND, that we should WALK IN THEM.” (Eph. 2:10) We can trust in the Lord because He says, “I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you WILL BRING IT TO COMPLETION at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Phil. 1:6)
Always keep this in mind, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’S PURPOSE that prevails.” (Pro. 19:21)
