“Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and JESUS HEALED HIM, so that he could both talk and see. All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons…” Jesus said to them, “I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL NOT BE FORGIVEN.” (Matt. 12:22-24, 31)
Blasphemy is the act of insulting or showing a lack of reverence for God. As the Pharisees blasphemed saying that Jesus drove out these demons by the power of the devil. This was the work of the Holy Spirit and the Pharisees said “it was the work of the devil”, blasphemy indeed, which according to Jesus cannot be forgiven. Why is this? Because, conviction is the Holy Spirit’s work. So, when we state that this work is done by the devil we are denying and rejecting the Holy Spirit’s work which is the means whereby we are saved. So, be very careful and DO NOT BLASPHEME the Holy Spirit…
