“When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted…I will remember your miracles of long ago. I WILL CONSIDER ALL YOUR WORKS AND MEDITATE ON ALL YOUR MIGHTY DEEDS.” YOUR WAYS, GOD, ARE HOLY. What god is as great as our God? YOU ARE THE GOD WHO PERFORMS MIRACLES; you display your power among your people.” (Psa. 77:2-14)
Have you ever found yourself in such difficult circumstances, so overwhelmed with grief or sorrow, that you began to ask those kinds of questions, wondering if God has put His grace, compassion, love and favor aside from you? If so, realize that in those moments, what is most important is not that you’re asking those kinds of questions. It’s how you answer them. Our fleshly, sinful tendency is to turn inward when we suffer, focused on our own feelings, and fall headlong into the self-pity. Asaph (the writer of this Psalm) avoided that temptation (and so must we) by TURNING AWAY from self and flesh, and TURNING TOWARD GOD IN FAITH. “With your mighty arm you redeemed us…” (Psa. 77:15)
FORGIVE US FOR EVER DOUBTING YOU ABBA FATHER…
