A REALLY BAD DAY…

Sometimes our day does not go so well! There seems to be chaos everywhere, everything we try to do ends in disaster and we wonder, when will I have peace? Well, listen to what the Lord says about this: You keep him in perfect peace WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON YOU, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.” (Isaiah 26:3-4) The word “stayed” in the passage is important.  To stay something means to attach it to something solid–something trustworthy.  You stay a roof support or the mast of a ship to keep it steady even in storms and high winds.  The passage from Isaiah meant that we will have perfect peace when our mind is SECURED OR FIRMLY FIXED, when it is “stayed” on the Lord, who is described in the passage as our rock.

Occasionally we are hesitant to stay ourselves on someone, even the Lord, if we are not sure He is trustworthy.  In other words, we need faith.  If we come to know the Lord and trust Him, we say that we put faith in Him.  We might say, “I have perfect faith in my God because I know Him and I’ve seen what He has done for me. I know I can trust Him” The Holy Spirit has been given to us to teach us about trusting in God.

In I Corinthians 2:9-11, Paul says, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”–these THINGS GOD HAS REVEALED TO US THROUGH THE SPIRIT. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”

The Holy Spirit allows faith to grow in us because He brings us intimate knowledge of God; He tells us all about who God is so we can say, “I have faith in the Lord because I know that kind of person He is; He’s trustworthy; He’s solid.”
