In a world full of darkness, we need to be enlighteners! It is said that you become like who you spend the most time with, so let’s learn more and more about Jesus so we can be more and more like Jesus! This will happen because, “…it is the God who commanded LIGHT TO SHINE OUT OF DARKNESS, who has shone in OUR HEARTS to give the LIGHT OF THE KNOWLEDGE of the GLORY OF GOD in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corin. 4:6) Oh, what an enlightenment, Jesus said “I am the LIGHT of the world. He who follows Me shall NOT WALK IN DARKNESS, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
This is just like what happened on the first day of creation, “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness (châshak: to obscure, confuse) covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “LET THERE BE LIGHT,” and there was light.” (Gen. 1:2-3) Remember, this light source was not the Sun, that would not be created until the 4th day, so what was the source of this light? When the New Jerusalem was revealed (the new heaven), ”The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The LAMB (Jesus) IS ITS LIGHT.” (Rev. 21:23)
When Jesus reveals “ENLIGHTENMENT”, confusion and discouragement are OVERPOWERED AND EXTINGUISHED by His brightness. In declaring Himself to be the Light of the world, Jesus was claiming that He is the EXCLUSIVE SOURCE of spiritual light. No other source of spiritual truth is available to mankind. There are two types of light in the world. When we are born into this world, we perceive physical light, and by it we learn of our Creator’s handiwork in the things we see. However, although that light is good, there is another Light, a Light so important that the Son of God had to come in order to both declare and impart it to men. “When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, ‘I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.” (John 8:12) The illustration Jesus used speaks of the light of HIS TRUTH, the light of HIS WORD, the light of ETERNAL LIFE.
WHEN WE UNDERSTAND THE TRUE LIGHT WE WILL NEVER WALK IN SPIRITUAL DARKNESS.
