“Moses built an altar there and named it YAHWEH–NISSI (which means “the LORD is my banner”).” (Exo. 17:15) YAHWEH is translated as “The Existing One” or “Lord.” The chief meaning of Yahweh is derived from the Hebrew word Havah meaning “to be” or “to exist.” It also suggests “to become” or specifically “to become known” – this denotes a God who reveals Himself unceasingly Amanda. The Hebrew word for God is “ELOHIM”, which is the general term for God and is also, rather interestingly, a PLURAL WORD. In Genesis 1 Elohim is referred to as “Him” (male singular) but speaks in plural (“LET US make man in our image”).
“Baruch haShem!” (which means “Blessed be the Name!” or “Blessed be the Lord!”) is a phrase one hears multiple times a day in Israel Amanda. Why all of this about God’s name? “God said to Moses, “Say this: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. “This is my ETERNAL NAME, my name TO REMEMBER for all generations.” (Exo. 3:15) Yahweh Elohim, the Lord God our father wants us to know WHO HE IS! He desires for us to be in an intimate relationship with Him. The ability for us to hear what God is saying, to see what God is doing, and to move in the domain of the miraculous comes as we develop the same INTIMACY WITH and DEPENDENCE UPON THE FATHER as Jesus had.
God loves us with an intimacy that SURPASSES all of our dreams Amanda. He wants us to have a close, personal relationship with Him of INTIMACY, SIMPLICITY AND OBEDIENCE. This is an extraordinary honor and privilege.
