GOD SAID to Noah: “Be fruitful and multiply, and FILL THE EARTH.” (Gen. 9:1)
The people said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be SCATTERED ABROAD OVER THE FACE OF THE WHOLE EARTH.” But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now NOTHING THAT THEY PROPOSE TO DO WILL BE WITHHELD FROM THEM.” (Gen. 11:4-6)
God told Noah to go to all the earth, these people decided to stay in one place and build a great tower. What is so interesting about this is God said what they have purposed, THEY WILL ACCOMPLISH! Jesus tells us, “I say to you that if TWO OF YOU AGREE on earth concerning anything that they ask, IT WILL BE DONE for them by My Father in heaven.” (Matt. 18:19) These men were not doing the will of the Father yet the statement is made that unless God does something, what they set out to do they would accomplish it. The Lord said, “Come, let Us go down and there CONFUSE THEIR LANGUAGE, So the LORD SCATTERED THEM abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.” (Gen. 11:7-8) The Lord reminds us of the importance of unity, “…where two or three are gathered together in My name, I AM THERE in the MIDST of them.” (Matt. 18:20)
