“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “LET THERE BE LIGHT“ (‘owr: light of life); and THERE WAS LIGHT. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. GOD CALLED THE LIGHT DAY, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were THE FIRST DAY.” (Gen. 1:1-5)
A COUPLE QUESTIONS,
- WHAT WAS THE SOURCE OF THAT LIGHT? If you are thinking “the sun”, there is a slight problem, “God said, “Let there be lights (ma’owr: a luminous body)…to divide the day from the night”…God made two great lights: the greater light (the sun) to rule the day, and the lesser light (the moon) to rule the night…God saw that it was So the evening and the morning were THE FOURTH DAY.” (Gen. 1:14-19) This light was created on the 4th day and was illuminating. When the sun came out, darkness went away.
- WHAT WAS THAT LIGHT? The Genesis 1 Light was Jesus being revealed! Remember what He said, “I am the LIGHT OF THE WORLD. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12) This light is revelatory! Spiritual darkness needed to be dealt with first, this light is where the living and powerful Word of God is revealed!
