“Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet He is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt.” (Zech. 9:9) What an amazing sight it must have been when Jesus fulfilled this glorious prophecy that day, as He rode through the streets of Jerusalem, sitting upon a donkey – even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. He rode along AS PROPHESIED to the loud acclaim and happy songs of the jubilant multitude.. who recognized that this must be their promised Messiah – Who was spoken of by the prophets of old. And here we find the Lord Jesus finally fulfilling these words of Zechariah the prophet. What an AMAZING SIGHT that must have been!
As He rode on the donkey, most of the crowd SPREAD THEIR GARMENTS on the road ahead of Him, “Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around Him were shouting, “PRAISE GOD for the Son of David! Blessings ON THE ONE who comes in the name of the LORD! Praise God IN HIGHEST HEAVEN!” The ENTIRE CITY of Jerusalem was in an 1UPROAR as He entered. “WHO IS THIS?” they asked.” (Matt. 21:9-10) 1seiō: to cause to tremble. The whole city was amazed to the point of trembling because of the amazing presence of Jesus Christ. In just a few days they will all be crying out for Christ to be crucified. “…a mighty roar rose from the crowd, with one voice they shouted, “Kill Him…” (Luke 23:18) Look how easily our minds can be changed!
