WOW! The GREATEST and most BEAUTIFUL declaration of all declarations! “For unto us A CHILD IS BORN, unto us A SON IS GIVEN: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and HIS NAME SHALL BE CALLED WONDERFUL, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, THE PRINCE OF PEACE.” (Isaiah 9:6) That is, the emblem of government; the scepter, the sword, the key, or the like, which was hung from the shoulder.
“Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. THE ZEAL OF THE LORD OF HOSTS WILL PERFORM THIS.” (Isaiah 9:7) This is a prophecy of the incarnation of Christ, showing how He is related to mankind as their Savior; and also how HIS INFINITE MAJESTY AND GODHEAD ARE SHOWN. He shall appear as a child, born of a woman, born as a Jew, under the law, but not in the way of ordinary generation. He is a Son given – the human nature, in which the fullness of the Godhead was to dwell, being produced by the creative energy of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin.
“This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was espoused to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Matt. 1:18)
Espoused: to covenant, or betroth, refers to the marriage agreement, in which the parties MUTUALLY BOUND THEMSELVES TO EACH OTHER; without which, no woman was ever married among the Jews. A woman is espoused often a whole year and even longer before the marriage takes place.
