“This is the message which we have heard from Him (Jesus) and declare to you, that GOD IS 1LIGHT and IN HIM IS NO 2DARKNESS AT ALL. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and WALK IN DARKNESS, WE LIE and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son CLEANSES US FROM ALL SIN.” (1 John 1:5-7) 1phōs: enlightenment, the power of understanding spiritual truth. 2skotos: ignorance of respecting divine things.
Just what causes this darkness? “…the god of THIS WORLD (Satan) has BLINDED THE MINDS (darkness) of those who do not believe…” (2 Corin. 4:4) Then, just so we’ll understand what we’re dealing with, “…we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the PRESENT DARKNESS of this world, against spiritual hosts of WICKEDNESS in the heavenly places.” (Eph. 6:12)
It is very essential for us that our hearts are right with God, “…the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD LOOKS AT THE HEART.” (1 Sam. 16:7) The Palmist tells us, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any wicked way in me, and LEAD ME in the WAY EVERLASTING!” (Psa. 139:23-24)
Let’s pray sincerely concerning this verse, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we CONFESS OUR SINS, He is FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8-9)
