“This is the day the LORD has made. WE WILL rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psa. 118:24) Just prior to this verse David said something very prophetic, “The stone that the builders rejected has become THE CORNERSTONE.” (Psa. 118:22) Just what was David referring to? Jesus was preaching and the chief priests, scribes, and elders, confronted Him, “…by what authority are You doing these things?” (Luke 20:2) Then Jesus looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written: ‘THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE‘”? (Luke 20:17) Isaiah also refers to this, “…thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, A PRECIOUS CORNERSTONE, a sure foundation; Whoever believes need never be shaken.” (Isaiah 28:16)
So, here is Paul’s explanation, “…you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the FOUNDATION of the apostles and prophets, JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF BEING THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord…” (Eph. 2:20-21)
All of this could not have happened unless Jesus purchased His Church, “…care for the church of God which Jesus purchased with HIS OWN BLOOD.” (Acts 20:28) The day we “rejoice” in is the day Jesus Christ was crucified, shed His blood…
TO PURCHASE OUR SALVATION AND TO PURCHASE HIS CHURCH…“This is the day the LORD has made.”
