“Let this 1mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus…” (Phil. 2:5) 1phroneō: to have godly understanding. “…Prepare yourselves to think in the same way Christ did. Because He who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin…” (1 Pet. 4:1) When we have the mind of Christ we think differently and one thing that we see more clearly is the supreme magnificence of God.
Then we realize that, “…God also has highly exalted Jesus and given Him the name which is ABOVE EVERY NAME, that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that EVERY TONGUE should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil. 2:10-11)
I know that even with the mind of Christ working in us, we are still very imperfect people who can easily lapse back into our old way of thinking and action. But the Scripture is clear about the resources available to us in Christ. Here are some ingredients we can begin using to develop a Christ Like mind and attitude:
- Meditate on God’s Word (Psa. 1:2-3).
- Seek God’s will (Matt. 26:39).
- Bear the burdens of others. (Gal.6:2).
- Resist the devil (Matt. 4:1-11, Jam. 4:7).
- Learn to control our mental focus (Phil. 4:8).
- Be careful how we view life (Rom. 8:6).
- Look for God’s purpose in everything (Rom. 8:28).
- Seek His strength in our weakness (2 Corin. 12:9).
