- On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country
- and to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong,
- mentally awake, and morally straight.
That sounds like a good pledge doesn’t it AMY? Well that is the “Cub Scout” pledge and they pledge their allegiance with this. I would like to discuss with you that our allegiance is vital for us as followers of Jesus. As believers we are called to the behavior of loyalty to Christ as King. Allegiance is a loyalty or devotion to someone. So, when we pledge our allegiance to Jesus we’re saying that no matter what, we will be loyally devoted to doing His will. “…the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests said, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in Jesus name? But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “WE OUGHT TO OBEY GOD RATHER THAN MEN.” (Acts 5:24, 28-29)
Then they went on AMY, expressing their allegiance to the Lord, “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance and forgiveness of sins. And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given TO THOSE WHO OBEY HIM.” When they heard this, they were furious and PLOTTED TO KILL THEM.” (Acts 5:30-33)
What seems so very strange to me AMY, is Jesus came to minister to the Jewish people and here they are plotting to kill these men, “Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him, and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said, “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people ALL THE WORDS OF THIS LIFE.” (Acts 5:17-20)
We need to expressing our allegiance to the Lord, so we can do what He has for us to do…
