The saints in Laodicea were discouraged so Paul said, “…that their hearts may BE ENCOURAGED, being knit together in love, and attaining to ALL RICHES of the full assurance of understanding, to THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MYSTERY OF GOD, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden ALL THE TREASURES OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE.” (Col. 2:2-3) Paul is excited here because he discovered that we can achieve the mysteries and knowledge of God. So, he said, “If then you were raised with Christ, SEEK THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE ABOVE, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. SET YOUR MIND ON THINGS ABOVE, not on things on the earth. For you died, and YOUR LIFE IS HIDDEN WITH CHRIST IN GOD. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” (Col. 3:1-4) Paul is encouraged because we can seek those things which are above, KNOWING WE WILL FIND THEM because we have, “full assurance of understanding of the mysteries of God!!!”
How do we do this? “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so WALK IN HIM, ROOTED (rhizoō: cause a person to be thoroughly grounded) AND BUILT UP IN HIM and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells ALL THE FULLNESS OF THE GODHEAD BODILY; and you are COMPLETE IN HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.” (Col. 2:6-10) We are members “…of HIS (Christ’s) BODY, of His flesh and of His bones.” (Eph. 5:30)
