David was praying to the Lord and said, “…those who KNOW YOUR NAME will put their TRUST IN YOU; For You, LORD, have NOT FORSAKEN those WHO SEEK YOU.” (Psa. 9:10) God’s name represents HIS VERY NATURE. God first revealed His name to Moses at the burning bush. (Exod. 3:14-15). God calls Himself “I AM WHO I AM“ or, more simply, “I AM.” This name is related in Hebrew to the name Yahweh (Exodus 34:6), where God explains the meaning of His name this way: “The LORD! The God of COMPASSION and MERCY! I am SLOW TO ANGER and filled with UNFAILING LOVE and FAITHFULNESS.” We know we can trust God because He has REVEALED HIMSELF TO US through His name. That is how He wants us to KNOW HIM!!!
- We are very familiar with GOD’S “UNFAILING LOVE”, “…God SO LOVED the world that HE GAVE His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God DID NOT send His Son into the world to CONDEMN THE WORLD, but that the world through Him MIGHT BE SAVED.” (John 3:16-17)
- Of His “COMPASSION”, “…when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was MOVED WITH COMPASSION for them, and healed their sick.” (Matt. 14:14)
- Of His “MERCY”, “…when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but ACCORDING TO HIS MERCY He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit…” (Titus 3:4-5)
- Of His “FAITHFULNESS”, “If we confess our sins, HE IS FAITHFUL and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
