To celebrate the occasion of Jesus’ birth AMY, the Wise Men followed a star to bring gifts fit for a King.
- THE FIRST WISE MAN BROUGHT GOLD, certainly a fitting gift for a King. But Jesus did not come to be an earthly King; He came to be the King of our hearts. In His coming, He fulfilled the people’s deep hope for a King, but His reign didn’t look like they thought it would. Rather than gold, let’s give God our TRUST. He will never take your trust…it must be freely given. But when we give our faith and trust over to God, we open the door for our hopes to be fulfilled in the way that God knows will be the best for our lives.
- THE SECOND WISE MAN BROUGHT FRANKINCENSE. Frankincense was used as an incense, burned as a fragrant offering of worship to God. In the baby Jesus, man was reconciled with God and at peace. He became “God with Us,” dwelling among us; we would never again have to be separated from God because God sent Jesus to be the final sacrifice for our sins. Such a great gift to us deserves a gift in return. Let’s give God our WORSHIP. Our worship, through songs and prayers and praise, is a fragrant offering to God.
- THE THIRD WISE MAN BROUGHT MYRRH, a burial spice used in embalming. This is, of course, not your typical gift for a child, but this was no typical child. He was born to die. (John 3:16) says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” What an unfathomable gift! Let’s give God our HEARTS. To sacrifice His Son was indeed giving His heart to us. In return, let us invite God to truly dwell in our hearts and be Lord of our lives.
When Jesus was born into this world AMY, He brought us gifts of HOPE, PEACE, LOVE, and JOY. We can give our trust, our worship, our hearts, our lives. These are gifts that are FAR MORE VALUABLE than gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
