Let him show by GOOD CONDUCT that his works are done in the MEEKNESS OF WISDOM. BUT if you have BITTER ENVY and SELF–SEEKING in your hearts, DO NOT BOAST AND LIE AGAINST THE TRUTH. This wisdom does not DESCEND FROM ABOVE, but is EARTHLY, SENSUAL, DEMONIC. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and EVERY EVIL THING ARE THERE.” (Jam. 3:13-16)
WHAT LEADS TO DEMONIC WISDOM?
- BITTER ENVY: When SELF–SEEKING and BITTER ENVY are allowed to run free, we should expect EVERY EVIL PRACTICE to follow in its wake. The truth is that envy and selfish seeking HINDER GOD’S KINGDOM TREMENDOUSLY, because they keep people who SHOULD BE UNIFIED IN LOVE, SEPARATE and SUSPICIOUS of one another.
- SELF–SEEKING: seeking only to further ONE’S OWN INTERESTS, the “ALL ABOUT ME” attitude can be evident in a lack of consideration or empathy for others.
- BOASTING AND LYING AGAINST THE TRUTH: The wisdom that comes from the devil seeks to deny the existence of God, and appeals to the sensual part of man’s nature. Just like the devil said to Eve, “Did God really say?” (Gen. 3:1)
“For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find DISORDER AND EVERY EVIL PRACTICE.
BUT
the wisdom that COMES FROM HEAVEN is first of all PURE; then PEACE–LOVING, CONSIDERATE, SUBMISSIVE, full of MERCY and GOOD FRUIT, IMPARTIAL and SINCERE.” (Jam. 3:16-17)
