Paul talked of his fellow Israelites, “…ALL our fathers were under the cloud, and ALL passed through the sea. And ALL were baptized to Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and ALL ate the same spiritual food, and ALL drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank of the spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. But with MANY OF THEM God was not WELL PLEASED…” (1 Corin. 10:1-5) All of them experienced miraculous living as the followed God. They saw so many miracles, they did not have to go out and hunt for and gather food from the wilderness, God provided them with manna, enough to feed about 2,000,000 every day. How did they respond? “Now…the people COMPLAINED, there is nothing at all except this MANNA before our eyes…Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its color like the color of bdellium (amber). The people went about and gathered it, ground it on millstones or beat it in the mortar, cooked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and its taste was like the taste of pastry prepared with oil.” (Numbers 11:1, 6-8)
What happened to them and maybe to many today is losing our “AWE” of God. With many answered prayers, personal direction from the Lord, divine inspiration we know came from God and so much He has done for us that we are not even aware of so, “…LET US BE THANKFUL, and so worship God acceptably with REVERENCE AND AWE…” (Hebrews 12:28)
In 1995, at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, A great crowd had gathered for the opening of the Gospel Music Association’s annual convention. After several performances, the lights were dimmed, and Rich Mullins walked quietly onto the stage, dressed in scruffy jeans and a flannel shirt and unshaven and took his place at the piano. As the lights were going up, he began to play – He scarcely looked up from the piano. He was presenting his new signature song, “Awesome God.” Rich died Sept. 19, 1997, in a tragic highway accident.
