“…God tested Abraham. He said, “Abraham!, take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” (Gen. 22:1-2) The Lord God had great plans for Abraham and wanted to be sure of his faithfulness. Remember, the first commandment, Jesus says, “Love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, soul and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” (Matt.  22:37-38)

“Abraham took the wood…and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire, and a knife, and the two of them went…Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father! Look, the fire and the wood, but WHERE IS THE LAMB for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “My son, GOD WILL PROVIDE FOR HIMSELF THE LAMB.” (Gen. 22:5-8) Abraham knew that if he obeyed God all would be well so, he tied his son up and was ready to plunge the knife into his heart, knowing  that If he did, God would raise up his son. “…the angel of the LORD called out to him… “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. NOW I KNOW THAT YOU FEAR GOD, because you have NOT WITHHELD FROM ME YOUR SON, your only son.” (Gen. 22:11-12)

WE DEMONSTRATE OUR LOVE TO GOD BY OUR OBEDIENCE…SO,

For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
