For I testify that THEY GAVE AS MUCH AS THEY WERE ABLE, and even beyond their ability. ENTIRELY ON THEIR OWN…” (2 Corin. 8:3) Like David said, “…grant me a WILLING SPIRIT.” (Psa. 51:12) Paul pleads with them to, “FINISH THE WORK, so that YOUR EAGER WILLINGNESS TO DO IT MAY BE MATCHED BY YOUR COMPLETION OF IT, according to your means. For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.” (2 Corin. 8:11-12) So, when it comes to the work of the Lord we must have an urgent desire or interest in what we’re called to do, then do it with a cheerful readiness…when Paul invites the Corinthians to contribute to the relief of the impoverished saints in Jerusalem, he wants each person to “…give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER.” (2 Corin. 9:7)
