My awesome, Grandchildren, and Annika, Kaleigh, Kate, Gavin; whom I love and pray for every day: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and GOD OF ALL 1COMFORT, who COMFORTS us in all our tribulation, that WE MAY BE ABLE TO COMFORT THOSE WHO ARE IN ANY TROUBLE, with the COMFORT with which we ourselves are COMFORTED by God.” (2 Corin. 1:3-4) 1paraklēsis: exhortation, admonition, encouragement, a cheering and supporting influence. This must be a very important quality for us to have because it is used twenty-five times in these first nine verses. So, how do we learn to provide comfort to others? “For whatever things were written before were WRITTEN FOR OUR LEARNING, that we through the patience and COMFORT OF THE SCRIPTURES might have hope. Now may the GOD OF PATIENCE AND COMFORT GRANT YOU TO BE LIKE–MINDED TOWARD ONE ANOTHER, according to Christ Jesus…” (Rom. 15:4-5)
The Lord is encouraging us to use the Word as our source of comfort. For example Joshua says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU wherever you go.” (Josh. 1:9) David offers comfort with this, “…though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For YOU ARE WITH ME; Your rod and Your staff, THEY COMFORT ME.” (Psa. 23:4) He also said, “Show me a sign for good, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed,
BECAUSE YOU, LORD, HAVE HELPED ME AND COMFORTED ME…(Psa. 86:17)
