David opens Psalm 61 crying to the Lord. “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.” Psalms 61:1
I can’t tell you how many times I have experienced the “problem” of being overwhelmed by circumstances that seem hopeless, only to discover that Abba Father is already making a way. God always hears our cry and listens to us! Yes, our God is so very faithful! He longs (a persistent and strong desire) to be gracious to us and rises to show us compassion. Isaiah 30:18 “The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are [always] open unto their cry.” Psalms 34:15
David closes this Psalm praising the Lord. “So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.” Psalms 61:8
Why do we go from tears to cheers? Why not go from cheers to cheers? Does God change?
His word says: “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:31-32
Do we forget what God has done faithfully and lovingly for us over and over again?
“Behold [to gaze with wide-open eyes, as at something remarkable], what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…“ 1 John 3:1 The Message states it like this: “What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are…”
Just think about this the next time you’re feeling down: “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship [adoption]. And by him we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co–heirs with Christ…” Romans 8:15-17
Help us Abba Father to remember your faithfulness! To speak these words before the tears: Thou hast been a shelter for me – always, a strong tower from the enemy – always. So what must we do?
“I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.” Psalms 61:4
- Abide (dwell, inhabit) in thy tabernacle (a clearly conspicuous dwelling place) forever. Psalms 61:4A Abba Father, I must dwell with you in the secret place of the most high, I must dwell with you in your high and holy place.
- Trust (to flee for protection) in the covert (covering, protection) of thy wings. There are times that we must just be still and know that He is God! “…I am the LORD, I change not…” Malachi 3:6
- Selah fromCalah meaning to hang up or to weigh – pause, as this will never change. I can hang my hat on it. Pause and think about it – depend upon it – God never changes, never stops loving us, never stops thinking about us, never leaves us or forsakes us,– NEVER! He always holds us in his right hand.Read Psalms 139
We have a commandment from God to love him with all our heart, soul mind and strength. “…his commandments are not grievous [burdensome].”1 John 5:3 This is a commandment from a loving Father who knows exactly how to meet our every need and he knows if
WE LOVE HIM WITH OUR ALL WE WILL WANT TO SERVE HIM WITH OUR ALL AND TRUST HIM WITH OUR ALL…
