Having made all haste to write to you about the common salvation, beloved, I had need to write to you to exhort you to CONTEND EARNESTLY FOR THE FAITH ONCE DELIVERED TO THE SAINTS. For certain men crept in secretly, those having been of old previously written into this condemnation, ungodly ones PERVERTING THE GRACE OF OUR GOD FOR UNBRIDLED LUST, and DENYING the only Master, God, even our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Jude 1:1-4)
Jude is writing to those who are called, set apart in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ.” The greatest sin of these secrete perverters of the gospel, was denying or rejecting Jesus Christ our Lord… Jude proclaims that the faith was “once” delivered to the saints. The Greek term is hapax, and it means “ONCE FOR ALL TIME.” Because the truth never changes, it is always the truth. It is the duty of every genuine believer to contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints.
