My awesome, Grandchildren, and Annika and Kaleigh, whom I love and pray for every day: “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life…I HIDE MYSELF IN YOU. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit LEAD ME ON LEVEL GROUND. For your name’s sake, LORD, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.” (Psa. 143:8-11)
Five of my nineteen grandchildren live with me and I love to watch them play hide and seek. We live in a three story home so, there are plenty of places to hide but they always get found. So, where is a safe and secure place to hide? David said, “I hide myself in you Lord!” Where you may show me, teach me, preserve my life and bring me out of trouble…
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty…HE WILL COVER YOU WITH HIS FEATHERS, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart [fortification].” (Psa. 91:1-4) We don’t just hide our-self, but we rest in your shadow and you cover me with your feathers. The image of God “covering us with his feathers” in verse 4, is one of comfort and protection. The image that comes to mind is a mother bird covering her little ones with her feathers. Like a parent whose arms are a safe place to retreat from a scary storm or a hurt, God’s comforting presence provides safety and protection from life’s emotional storms.
