My awesome, wonderful Grandchildren, and Annika and Kaleigh, whom I love and pray for every day: In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. HE WILL BAPTIZE YOU WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND FIRE.” (Matt. 3:1-2)
John came to prepare the way of the Lord and his typical day consisted of preaching the message of repentance and baptizing converts in the river.
“Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us TO FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened. Jesus saw the SPIRIT OF GOD COMING DOWN ON HIM like a dove. A voice from heaven said, “THIS IS MY SON, and I love him. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH HIM.” (Matt. 3:13-17)
