“So, the men of Israel…DID NOT ASK FOR THE COUNSEL OF THE LORD.” (Josh. 9:14)
So, what is the results of not seeking the Lord for counsel?
“The LORD brings the counsel of the nations TO NOTHING; he FRUSTRATES the plans of the peoples. THE COUNSEL OF THE LORD STANDS FOREVER…” (Psa. 33:10-11)
Just to eliminate any doubt about God’s counsel!
“…remember the former things of old; for I AM GOD, AND THERE IS NO OTHER; I AM GOD, and there is none like me, DECLARING THE END FROM THE BEGINNING… ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish ALL my purpose,’”(Isa. 46:9-10).
You see, therefore, why God is so adamant about our trusting in Him:
“Trust in the LORD with ALL your heart, and do not lean on your own UNDERSTANDING. In all your ways acknowledge [recognize] him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Prov. 3:5-6)
The first and great commandment instructs us to love God with EVERYTHING THAT IS IN US so, doesn’t it make sense for us trust God with ALL OUR HEART? Often our pride motivates us to use “our own understanding”, we have worked hard to gain all this knowledge, so why not put it to use? Because: “…God 1resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.” (1 Pet. 5:5) 1antitassomai: to oppose, to range in battle against.
Remember, this is our creator and maker, our loving Abba Father, who always wants to watch over us: “I AM GOD, and there is none like me, DECLARING THE END FROM THE BEGINNING…” He knows the result of what we are doing before we even begin to do it! So, no matter how much we may know or think we know, we need to seek God’s counsel! Just ask Him to help us! Then, trust Him with all our heart!!!
