“God is our refuge and strength, an EVER-PRESENT HELP IN TROUBLE. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea…” (Psalms 46:1-2)
These wonderful truths about God tell us that we do not need to fear, no matter what disaster is in front of us. Even if the things we take security in, such as our abilities and competence, our health, or our job “suddenly change”, we do not need to fear because God is always right here with us and remains faithful and true.
Robert the Bruce, a young soldier, found himself in a terrible battle during the Scottish Reformation. The enemy was defeating this man’s army. He found himself retreating from the battlefield, running he found a cave to hide there. He crawled in and fell to his face, desperately crying to God TO SAVE HIM AND PROTECT HIM. Looking up, he saw a spider weaving its web at the entrance. As he watched he thought, “I asked God for protection and deliverance, and He sent me a spider. How can a spider save me? His heart was hardened, knowing the enemy would soon kill him. He heard his enemies, looking for those in hiding. A soldier with a gun walked up to the cave. As he started to enter the cave, he saw the spider’s web, completely strung across the opening. He called out to his friend, “There can’t be anyone in here. They would have had to break this spider’s web to enter the cave. Let’s move on.” How will God help us? There are numerous ways He can choose, we just need to trust Him! “This is what the LORD says to you:
‘Do not be afraid or discouraged…For THE BATTLE IS NOT YOURS, but God’s.” (2 Chron. 20:15)
