“While I am in the world, I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.” (John 9:5).
“…Jesus…said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me WILL NEVER WALK IN DARKNESS, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
I find it very fascinating that when God said, on the first day: “Let there be light,” and THERE WAS LIGHT.” (Genesis 1:3), that light was the sun, right? No, because it was not until the 4th day that God created the sun: “God made two great lights–the greater light to govern the day [the sun] and the lesser light to govern the night…And there was evening, and there was morning–THE FOURTH DAY.” (Genesis 1:16-19).
So, what was that light on the first day? Well, who is the Light of The World? Jesus!!!
“In the beginning was the Word, and THE WORD WAS WITH GOD, and THE WORD WAS GOD…In him was life, and that life was THE LIGHT OF ALL MANKIND. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not has not understood it. And THE WORD BECAME FLESH and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1, 4, 5, 14)
Then think about this, when this life, as we know it is over and we go to be with the Lord…”And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me THE HOLY CITY Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God…And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and ITS LAMP [light] IS THE LAMB [Jesus Christ the Lamb of God]. (Revelation 21:10, 23).
Notice that Jesus said: “WHILE I AM IN THE WORLD, I am the light of the world.” (John 9:5). Jesus passed the torch to us as His disciples when He said: “YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14). Jesus then said in His prayer to the Father: “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, THAT ALL OF THEM MAY BE ONE, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory [light] that you gave me, that THEY MAY BE ONE AS WE ARE ONE— “ (John 17:20-22)
