How to Start a Fire!

A few years ago, I purchased a used car with free OnStar and free minutes with their phone service. All I had to do was setup the system, push a button on the steering wheel and say “Call” OnStar would reply “Name tag please” I say “Home” and the call goes through. I just speak and the air is charged with the signal that connects to a satellite and then to my home phone.

James said that our words 1“…set on fire the course of nature…” he said 2“…Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.” Our words charge the atmosphere and cause things (good or bad) to happen.

When we consider how God created us and we can see why our words cause things to happen. 3“In the beginning…God said, let there be light: and there was light.” In the first chapter of Genesis, God said “let there be…” eleven times and it happened, no hesitation and no doubt. When God spoke, the word went forth and as God said about His word: 4“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

When the Lord God created man: 5“…God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over…all the earth…”  Dominion means to tread down, to reign or rule over all the earth. We were created in the image (representation or representative figure) and likeness (similarity or like manner) of God. Paul said it like this 6“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors [representatives], as though God were making his appeal through us…”

So, if we are to have dominion over the earth and be Christ’s representative, what should happen when we speak? What should happen with the words that go out of our mouth? Jesus said: 7“…If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say [speak] unto this sycamine tree, be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.”

Jesus also said 8“…Verily I say unto you, if ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall…say [speak] unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done…all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

There are far too many people who believe that Adam ruined this promise of God when he transgressed God’s commandment but, remember we have been reconciled or brought back into relationship with God. 9“…if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature [creation]: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new…all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ…”

Should we not then resume our position of dominion? Paul prayed this prayer for us:   10“…That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know…what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality…power…might… dominion, and every name that is named…And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”

Something should happen when we pray because 11“…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man *availeth much [*to have or exercise much force].”
