THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

“Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.” (Revelation 19:7)

Weddings have a very special place in every society. Each wedding is a celebration of beauty and life. They declare the community’s hope for the future, as well as the love between a man and a woman. Preparations for a wedding require a great time and effort. Often, great distances are traveled by family and friends to celebrate with the couple. As the bride carefully makes herself as glowing as possible for that great day of celebration.

It’s no wonder that the church is described as the bride of Christ? The church is preparing for the return of Jesus, WHO IS COMING TO CLAIM HIS BRIDE AND BE UNITED WITH HER FOREVER. The bride, dressed in beautiful bright linen interlaced from deeds of obedience and love, has prepared for the greatest celebration in history. What a glorious picture of the Christ’s church triumphant!

The room will be electrified with anticipation. The shout of the guests will be so powerful that it will mimic the sound of a storm crashing through the mountains. That celebration will come! The guests will have arrived! The radiant bride will step forth to greet her husband.

The image of Christ returning for his bride is so beautiful that it motivates us to worship. Even more amazing is that THIS VISION IS ABOUT US. Those who follow Christ, who love and serve him, whom he has redeemed–WE ARE THE CHURCH, THE BRIDE OF CHRIST!

“You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” (Luke 12:40)

Lord Jesus, help us to be prepared for the day of your return. As the bride, we are making ready for the wedding day. Come, Lord; come quickly. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Be ready…Bill Stockham
