
“…Daniel continued…” (Dan. 1:21) Daniel was trained to be a governmental servant and a faithful historian of God’s dealings with the youth taken captive.
“Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon instructed Ashpenaz, to bring some of the king’s (Israel’s king) descendants and some of the nobles, young men in whom there was no blemish.” (Dan. 1:3-4) The purpose was to train these captive youth to be like and think like their captors then go back and spy on their own people so, first they changed their names. Daniel’s name meant, “God is my judge“ Belteshazzar, the name given to Daniel, means “Bel protects his life.” Bel was one of the many false god’s. That’s why the Bible says, “…do not be conformed to this world…” (Rom. 12:2)
