My awesome, Grandchildren, and Annika, Kaleigh and Kate, whom I love and pray for every day: Hanani, said to me, “THE WALL…IS BROKEN DOWN, AND ITS GATES HAVE BEEN BURNED WITH FIRE. When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. Then I said: “LORD, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear this prayer…” (Neh. 1:2-6)
Nehemiah was a prayer warrior — he PRAYED, FASTED, WEPT, AND SOUGHT GOD’S WILL for four months from the time he received the report about Jerusalem. Why? Was God reluctant to bless Nehemiah? NO, God is eager to bless us! Through prayer, God is able to perform miracles in and through us, but we must BE WILLING TO DO WHAT HE WANTS, THE WAY HE WANTS IT DONE. So while Nehemiah persisted in prayer, God was preparing him for the monumental task.
“So the wall was completed…in FIFTY–TWO DAYS. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations WERE AFRAID AND LOST THEIR SELF–CONFIDENCE, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.” (Neh. 6:15-16)
How large of a task was this? The length of the wall was 2.5 miles, the average height is 39.4 feet and the average thickness 8.2 feet. The wall contained 34 watchtowers and 7 main gates open for traffic, with 2 minor gates, all completed, with God’s help, in 52 days!!!
OUR GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD…
