My awesome, Grandchildren, and Annika, Kaleigh, Kate, Gavin; whom I love and pray for every day: “LORD, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them? They are like A BREATH; their days are like a FLEETING SHADOW…Reach down your hand from on high; DELIVER ME and RESCUE ME…Blessed is the people of whom THIS IS TRUE; blessed is the people WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD.” (Psa. 144:3-4, 7-8, 12-15)
This Psalm is believed to have been written near the time David came to be recognized as the king over ALL THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL, and the psalm expresses David’s heart for the nation. David recognizes the amazing awesomeness of God saying, “what are humans that you care for them” David knew that man had CONTINUALLY broken God’s commandments! Man, TIME AFTER TIME, built and worshiped false Gods. David recognized that we are just a “fleeting shadow” “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? IT IS EVEN A VAPOR that appears for a little time and then VANISHES AWAY.” (Jam. 4:13-14)
Look at God’s intention for us in the beginning, “God said, “Let Us make man IN OUR IMAGE, according to OUR LIKENESS; LET THEM HAVE DOMINION over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, OVER ALL THE EARTH…Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and SUBDUE IT; HAVE DOMINION over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and OVER EVERY LIVING THING that moves on the earth.” (Gen. 1:26, 28)
Just think of all this wonderful dominion man had and was able to discuss it all on a daily basis as he MET WITH GOD. Then along comes the devil and tempts Eve to try the “forbidden” fruit, the devil said, “God knows that in the day you eat of it YOUR EYES WILL BE OPENED, and YOU WILL BE LIKE GOD, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, SHE ATE. She also gave to her husband, WITH HER and HE ATE.” (Gen. 3:5-6) Then came removal from paradise and from the presence of God…
So, we are told by Paul, “Do you not know that the unrighteous WILL NOT inherit the kingdom of God? (then he gives us a list) And such WERE SOME OF YOU. But you WERE WASHED, but you WERE SANCTIFIED, but you WERE JUSTIFIED in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corin. 6:9-11)
