My dear brothers and sisters, dedicating your lives to singing for Jesus: “A woman came to Jesus with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”
Alabaster jars were often made from a precious stone found in Israel. This stone resembles the texture of marble, and was extremely expensive to own. Mark tells us it was worth about one year’s wages (John 12:5).
Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING THIS WOMAN? SHE HAS DONE A BEAUTIFUL THING TO ME. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, SHE DID IT TO PREPARE ME FOR BURIAL. Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, WHAT SHE HAS DONE WILL ALSO BE TOLD, in memory of her.” (Matt. 26:7-12)
It is interesting to go through the Gospel accounts and note the many times Jesus said to these disciples that he was going to die. Over and over again he informed them that he was heading for death. NOT ONE OF THEM BELIEVED HIM — except Mary of Bethany.
LET THE WORLD AROUND YOU KNOW, JESUS IS COMING BACK…
FaithLine, the bible says: “WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING THIS WOMAN? SHE HAS DONE A BEAUTIFUL THING TO ME…”
